Supposedly it takes twenty-one days to form a new habit, but is there really a certain time frame for when you should begin a new habit?
I read a very interesting article the other day on habits by Gretchen Rubin. Gretchen Rubin is the author of three New York Times best sellers, and has done extensive research on habits. With our habits impacting 90% of our day, we all know that if we really want to change your lives' then we need to change our habits....but how do we get our goals to stick as habits?
What Gretchen found is that when we have a really big change in our life such as a move, a new job, new child, new relationship etc.,- it represents a clean slate in our lives. What happens during that clean slate is that many of our old habits are wiped away because our routine is now altered. This now gives a person the opportunity to form new habits that will stick.
According to Gretchen, the absolute best time to start a new goal is on the first day of something new. That will quickly incept the new activity into your routine to the point that it will become a habit. I must say, I agree with Gretchen's research. In my opinion, the impact of a new change does make it easier to incorporate new goals. Do you agree with this ideology? Let me know.
Take Care!
